5 Resources for Growing Resilient Kids

Resilient children possess the ability to navigate life’s challenges with courage, adaptability, and determination. Teaching children problem-solving skills and promoting a growth mindset further contributes to their resilience.

By encouraging them to brainstorm solutions, analyze situations, and think critically, we empower children to approach challenges with a proactive and solution-oriented mindset.

Emphasizing the importance of effort, perseverance, and the belief that abilities can be developed through practice helps children develop a sense of mastery over their circumstances.

Activity: Build Resiliency Through STEM

Marble Run

Materials: Tape, 10 or more toilet paper rolls, a ping pong ball, a cup, scissors

The goal is for the child to roll a ping pong ball down the toilet paper rolls and into the cup on the floor. Have the child begin by cutting the toilet paper rolls in half and taping them to the wall. They will need to make sure the rolls are not spaced too far apart for the ball to fall between. Chances are, this will take them a few tries. You can make it harder by saying the toilet paper rolls cannot touch and/or they have to be a finger length apart. They can work alone or in groups.
